Day 62: What does the Fox say?

Tonight we went to Gitam University's talent show/concert. First off, Gitam is one of our favourite places in the world right now and then, to make it even better, they are having a cultural festival this weekend. Gitam is a private school located right on the edge of town, by the beach. The students at this university are from all over India-- many of them don't even speak Telugu so when you walk around on campus almost everyone is speaking English. I love this place so much because it makes me feel like a normal college student, just hanging out with people my age. Oh and I guess the wonderful breeze and landscaping probably have something to do with it.

Sarisha (our translator Sudha's daughter) invited us all for a sleep over tonight since she lives on campus here. Carly and I were wandering around on campus at one point and we heard some music and had to stop. When we first got into the outdoor auditorium there was a band warming up on stage. And Car and I were hardcore fan-girling after five minutes of listening to them. They were covering American songs like Avicii's 'Wake Me Up'.. and they were GOOD! Eventually we found out that the bands name is Insignia. The lead singer has this awesome (adorable) British-Indian accent and he is totally smooth, as if he was born on a stage. The pianist was super talented and the drummer was adorable and shy. Tonight was their last show as a band because they are all graduating and going to different places at the end of this school year. :( We are so sad about that. Obviously we get attached really fast.

I won't even talk about anyone else that performed cuz honestly, Car and I were just counting down until Insignia came back on stage ;)

Our favourite song of the night was 'What does the Fox say?'... It was nearly FLAWLESS. And people were going crazy! We were laughing the whole time because we never expected to hear this song in such a random context-- and sung so well! He got all the fox's sounds perfectly! But I guess the whole world is capable of recognizing the strangely amazing essence of this song. It just CONNECTS people haha Everyone was going crazy! It was a beautiful moment to see how similar university kids are in India and in North America.

I don't think my video is uploading which is super sad :( but the point is that this band has a really big piece of my heart right now :)

Love,
Stéfanie

ps. Also, go listen (and dance) to this song. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_xUKwJn8nWg
