Visakhapatnam, India
My biggest dream growing up was to go to India. In some ways, I planned my education around the opportunity to fulfill this dream. I studied anthropology with the hope that I would learn more about India. I studied Hindi in university so I could prepare. I even signed up for a study abroad in Varanasi my sophomore year (sadly, it ended up being canceled three months before our departure).
Finally, when I was in my junior year I was able to do my field study and anthropology thesis research in India.
My university used to send 6-10 students every semester to Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, India.
Vizag (for short) is a medium sized city on the coast of eastern India. The closest "big" city is Hyderabad. Vizag's main language is Telugu.
While I lived there I wrote 1 blog post a day for 100 days. It is one of my favourite collection of posts because it is a record of a huge dream coming true, one day at a time.
Here are some of my favourites:
Day 1: Airports and Arrivals
Day 57: Things I Learned from Backpacking in North India
Day 83: If You Ever Come to India...
Day 100: 100 Days of India
